Thanks, Grant. Alway appreciate your comments.

I've never heard of LightZone so I'll have to look into that furher. I have to be honest that I'm very sceptical of any programs (including Photomatix) which edit files without me having complete control over the steps involved.

Thanks again.@Grant

You will have to expand on that a little for me to properly understand what you mean :)@Window Shutters

In particular, and without limitation, cheating includes any form of —ollusion as that term is commonly understood in the industry. Window Shutters

John,

Well timed shot and a nice result. I remember the harbour at Anstruther. My wife has a cousin living at Pittenweem. Superb fish and chips all around that area.

It's not cheating. In fume room days people would spend a week dodging and burning to get a result of similar appeal.

Good use of HDR although there are applications around that might allow you achieve much the same result directly from a single original. In effect the result is a redistribution of the zones of light (given the B&W conversion) within the available DR of the display medium (monitor or printer) which is probably not that much different to the camera sensor in practical terms.

Using your posted final comparison jpg I got quite close (possibly limited by the prior jpg processing of course) to the same result using LightZone. I can't be sure it would give the same full size finesse of course but it would be a non-destructive edit in a single edit file with no intermediate steps. I thought that challenge might appeal to you ...

Keep up the great work. It's always a pleasure to see you shots, even the ones that don't have an especial appeal for me.

Have fun.
